Original review: May 1, 2019In India the all premium hearing aids costs INR 5-7L for a pair but Starkey gives it at 1.3L rupees. Quality is not bad and it comes with 4 years warranty. My 4 years experience with them is good as in 7 working days the products gets repaired without hassles. Presently using Halo iQ 2400 RIC. Currently it’s best product at that price and good services. I am using hearing aids from 1992 to days for both ears. This product has given great results.
I have a pair of Starkey Livio 2400 hearing aids. I was fitted for them at their Eden Prairie, MN facility about 5 months ago. I'd like to summarize my experience with them in case it helps anyone. About me: 60 years old. Tinnitus in addition to my hearing loss. Tired of not being able to follow conversations. I am audiophile who also records music. We are in a new house and just built a fully outfitted recording studio in our basement, and last year put in a high end, whole-house (and patio) sound system. New media room has reference level 7.2 system. Sound quality is -extremely- important to me. Also, my wife has a voice which is on the quiet side.
Pros: The most natural sound I have ever heard in a hearing aid. Selectable modes to screen out background noise, a forward biased mode for restaurant conversation and more. If the devices detect that you are moving faster than 10 MPH it can go into an automobile mode. IPhone connection... I hear my 'Waze' map giving me directions while driving. I can listen to podcasts, music, or take a phone call and only I can hear the audio.
Thrive App. Some of the most ingenious programming code has gone into this app. For example, the hearing aids can actually translate foreign languages and play the translations in my ears! They have 'Fitbit' physical health information available, the number of steps I have taken for example. And also 'mental' health info such as a verbal engagement score. Cons: Batteries cost $ and only last a week. They are spendy hearing aids. But like my wife said, if I could hear her and others better, and with high sound quality, they are worth every penny. I have to say that I am still sometimes amazed when I am wearing these. Makes me feel like a new man.
View moreI have worn Starkey hearing aids for almost 20 years. They are GREAT! For people who say they are getting popping and straight it is because they are not adjusted right or the mold is not fitting right. You need to go to a good provider who will work with you until they are right. You have to make sure you have a good fit. If so then no popping or straight. Also you need a good provider to make sure they are adjusted right. If someone is having trouble with them than they need to keep going back until it is corrected.
I have been wearing hearing aids for almost 20 years. For the last three, I've been wearing a pair of Z series standard BTEs and I love them. They have been the best HAs I've ever worn for comfort, sound quality and performance. I'm so pleased that I'll be getting another pair when I'm eligible next month. I have moderately severe hearing loss and tinnitus. I have no problem hearing now wherever I go, no matter what the listening environment is. I highly recommend them!
Thank you for your valuable feedback. We are so glad that you are enjoying your devices.
Sincerely,Starkey Hearing Technologie
I purchased my first hearing aids one year ago. Starkey was recommended by my audiologist for my type of lifestyle. Though they were definitely expensive, they have been absolutely wonderful. Rechargeable so I don’t need to mess with batteries, easy to clean and best hearing experience with no feedback. And... no one can even see them! Worth it in so many ways!
Thank you for your valuable feedback. We are so glad that you are enjoying your devices.
Sincerely,Starkey Hearing Technologies

My VA audiologist talked me into trying these and I have had nothing but issues with them. Since I have had them they have been sent back numerous times for the volume intermittently going to full volume. Now once again they are doing the same issue and it is happening with more frequency. Also when I got them back the last time I could hear beeps and squeaks and now I can't. The VA won't let me go back to in ear aids like I had until the 3 year warranty runs out. You can bet I will be going back to the in ear aids at that time. Only have to wait till October.
I purchased Starkey Livio 2400 a month ago. The first pair was returned after two weeks and replaced because they were defective. The second pair has the exact same problems. Randomly shutting off at least daily and sometimes multiple times/day and static and clicking, disconnecting from Bluetooth. The charge life is abysmal, barely lasting 14-16 hours. My AuD says I am the third person she works with in the past month having these issues. Steer clear of these hearing aids. The quality is lacking for the $ being charged.
My husband & I each purchased a pair of “Starkey’s best” (and most expensive) hearing aids. I lost one of mine, & it was replaced through insurance coverage. About 6 months later, one of my husband’s quit working, & it was returned to the Starkey factory for repair. Starkey would not return it, saying that was the one they sent a replacement for. It absolutely was NOT! What a mess we had. Our retailer agreed, saying Starkey had a record of issuing us 6 serial numbers initially. They also made some errors, but said Starkey refused to listen or make it right. The vendor's solution was to give my husband a pair of Signia demos. Wow! How can we trust Starkey again? They still have a hearing aid that belongs to my husband.
I purchased Starkey In Canal Hearing Aids from an ENT in Lake Mary, Florida. I selected them because I have rather small ear canals and Starkey molds their products for a nice fit. The pair worked great for about a month or so. Then I accidentally got one wet and it had to be repaired (this is when I learned that I had to spend $30 to have quick return). It came back and worked fine for about another month or so. Then the problems began. First, the sound fluctuated. I returned to the ENT and adjustments were made. A few weeks later, the left hearing aid lost volume and it was sent for repair. This repair lasted about a month or so and back it went for more repairs.
After several more repairs, I realized that it seemed that my hearing was getting worse so I took the pair back to the ENT's office for a volume adjustment. After testing them, the audiologist discovered that NEITHER were working!!! Having been through all the problems and repairs with me, she decided not to return mine but rather to request a new pair from Starkey since she realized that mine were nonfunctioning. So, excitedly, I waited for the new pair. I got them about a month ago and they worked great. However, last night the left one stopped working. Unfortunately, I am going to be stuck with this product until I find one that I can deal with.
As far as I am concerned, Starkey should change their company name to 'Sanitation' Hearing Aids since they manufacture TRASH. Having now had 2 pairs of Starkey hearing aids, I fully understand why Starkey gives you 45 days to try them since 45 days is about all they work until they need repairs! So, I spent $3,600 for a pair of Starkey hearing aids and I feel I would have gotten more for my money had I flushed it down the toilet!
View moreI have one hearing aid. I have hearing loss in my right ear but I also have tinnitus. I went to a leading provider in Memphis, Tennessee. I wanted the best possible experience and a way to minimize the tinnitus effect. So they steered me towards NuEar. I asked several times if they had hearing aids with apps. Yes they did and I could upgrade my NuEar later. They spent a large amount of time to tuning and white noise features. I bought insurance for loss. Cost just over $3000 for one hearing aid. No resolution on upgrade. Over two years later and still working great. Nearest provider since I moved is over 100 miles away. Tried to get service in Phoenix and no returned calls. Starkey, need your help.
I wear Starkey in-ear hearing aids. The pull tag on 1 of my hearing aids broke and it was sent to Starkey for repair. The cost was $329. The replacement part could not have cost more than $1. I’m willing to pay a fair price but this price gouging. Tom **
It took me 2 YEARS and 3 DIFFERENT audiologists to get Starkey to make a shallow set of their SoundLens aids. My first Right-side aid was accidentally made as a Left side instead of an opposite hand mirror to the Left - it hurt like being stabbed in the inner ear when first inserted. I was a 34 year old man and nearly cried in the doctor’s office from the pain. When I pointed this out to my doctor, she said I don't know what I’m talking about and had it remade SMALLER.
At no point did any of these trained professionals stop to see that the Right aid was made a Left. It took me 3 remakes (once every 2 weeks with shipping) for them to admit the mistake and remake. 50 such episodes followed (At one doctor, when I explained that one of the aid's speakers was snapping like a speaker turning on every few minutes, I was told I was imagining it).
I was Yes'd to death as if this organization understood my impossibly simple request, that the aids are deeper in the canal (smaller) so as not to cause excruciating pain against my tragus. So called special-visit staff met with me to spin the usual nonsense, 'is that really what happened? we promise we understand this time'. Their notes never made it to the guy in the lab making $10 an hour making shells. No one in the universe would believe how many times in a row this happened - I wouldn't believe my own memory if I didn't have a trail of emails and pictures. Instead, with 90% of the remakes, after agreeing in writing that they understand the amazingly simple request, they made the aids slimmer. Causing feedback and improper fit.
When I finally got one well fitting Left aid and one loose fitting Right aid I decided to coat with polish myself, I purchased my own programmer in order to not suffer the asinine process of booking an appointment to slightly tune the aids. What followed was both of the hearing aids breaking down into a permanent hiss, or random speaker snaps, every month or so, requiring a trip to the doctor so the DOCTOR can put the stupid things in the mail for me to Starkey.
50% of the returned aids had the original problem and needed to be returned again. I have absolutely no comprehension of how older people deal with this inane, completely convoluted process and blatant theft of $8000 for two sound repeaters that will cost $100 from third party makers in the next 10 years. The so called Audiologists that provide patients with these aids are nothing but glorified salespeople that know less about the hearing aids, programmer, and software than I do now, after 2 years of use.
View moreI got my first set of hearing aids about a year ago and not being familiar with hearing aids it has taken me this long to decide just how bad they are. #1 I don't think that I will ever get where it sounds like my head is in a bucket. #2 When I'm in a crowded room it's hard to understand what people are saying because of all the 'static', popping and clicking. I have started taking the hearing aids out just so I can understand what they are saying - why have them in the first place? #3 DON'T wear them when its raining or snowing!!! One drop or flake and they are dead, then they spend the next 2 days sitting in the charger drying out.
My wife thinks they help, she says I understand what she is saying more often than I did before. At times the sound coming out of them reminds me of when I was a kid back in the late 40's or early 50's when we built crystal or razor blade radios so we could listen to the local radio station. That is why I take them out and wear earphones when I listen to music. Definitely not worth the price!
View moreCaveat Emptor! I am 57, and have worn hearing aids for the last 14 years. I am technologically capable. I had been very happy in Phonak for many years and had had a bad experience with Starkey in the past, but the audiologist at my new ENT convinced me that Livio was the way to go. Not so! They have been terrible, and the streaming and iPhone syncing capabilities with the Thrive app have been a joke. I bought them four weeks ago, and they’ve already been at Starkey for a week, with no improvement. I emailed the company, with no response.
Update on 03/12/2019: I sent emails to [email protected] and no reply. Called the 888-251-9340 and the operator had no clue when I told her about my emails. She didn’t have any idea what department handled the emails. She finally hooked me up to tech support who also no idea who handled those emails. Tech support did attempt to help but I had already tried all of the options to try correct the problems. Did advise how to send a tech problem email through the Trivent app. All these streamers Trivent and remotes are new and still technical problems. I would just like some from customer service to call me
Original Review: Had problems with hearing aids shutting down. It was sent back and they repaired it. Numerous problems with connecting iPhone and Thrive app. Watching tv on my streamer and one hearing aid will lose the connection. I purchased a tv streamer in Dec 2018 and stopped working in Feb 2019. Replaced it. Quality of streamer poor for the amount of money it cost. Reviewed it on Trustpilot and Corp sent me an email telling me to outline the problems. Which I did and no response back no response since last week. Resent it Friday and still no feedback.
View moreI purchased a cross over model from Starkey 2 years ago and they have never worked right. They have been back to Starkey numerous time and come back the same way they went out. The Audiologist is stump. They keep cutting out.

On June 27, 2018 I went to Instituto Audiologico Audiotech, S.A. de C.V. en Avenida Carpinteros Sur 2099, at the corner with Blvd. Justo Sierra, Colonia Burócrata en Mexicali, Baja California en México. The technician told me that the price for the hearing aid I needed was $21,600 pesos; but, my special price would be 50% less, i.e., $10,800 pesos (about $620 USD). The technician calibrated the device which was a Starkey model 3, series RIC, sand color, for right ear, serial number 1450001256/180769830, with receptor - 3 series Ric 50 #4 d.A.G.
All of the sudden the technician extended the bill for $10,800 pesos. When I put the device the technician kept asking 'Is it true that you are hearing better?' The best test he conducted was to get out of the facilities and once on the walk aside the traffic on the boulevard Justo Sierra, the technician said that I was listening better, when he was standing 3 feet away from me.
In no visible place at the facilities of this distributor was established that there were no returns accepted. Next day I went back to tell the technician that I was not hearing better, but he refused to listen to me, and said that the next appointment for revision was for July 18, 2018. The device did not work on the 28th, 29th, 30th of June, nor the 1st and 2nd of July. So, I went back to the facilities of the vendor Audiotech to return the device and get my money back; he told me then that returns were not accepted.
While I was putting the pressure on the technician to accept the return and give to me my money, another technician took the device and went to the back of facilities and came back saying that she had recalibrated the device. Even the device was in my hand everyone could hear a buzzing sound, so you can imagine how would be that sound once you put the device in your ear.
I had to go the PROFECO, authority for complaints in Mexico, and after two citations with the legal representative for Audiotech in Mexico, they accepted to give me back 85% of the $10,800 pesos ($620 USD), which I received in two payments, one on August the 30th and the second on September 17th, 2018. I ended paying $1,620 pesos (92.60 USD) and the time for two audiences with lawyers, getting 85% of my payment. I write the present as a warning to any people in México or abroad to avoid the fraud from any distributor of Starkey hearing aid products. P.S. I have documents on the information given in this written.

I have sent my hearing aids back several times in the 3 years since I purchased them. They start buzzing extremely high and just quit. The left has no hearing but I can tap on it and hear the tapping in my right ear. Weird. Also I can turn the sound down in the nonhearing left ear. The right ear has sound but can’t touch the volume control to change the hearing volume. If I start to sweat wearing the aids they quit. Guys I live in the south and you can sweat by just standing still. I spent thousands for them and looks like I’m going to be screwed again to have them repair again. Every time I send them they are never corrected probably. The sound has always been distorted. They have been a nightmare.

Spent over 6k for these top of the line Starkey IIC Hearing Aids and have had nothing but issues since day 1. It's been 1 year. Each one had to be sent back at least 5-6 times to get the fit correct, and that takes 2 weeks round trip each time. Had to have antennas removed to make fit comfortable, which in essence cut the options and functionality down. I have to go back to Audiologist for any type of sound adjustments. Normally you would be able to use an App. But they just could not get the fit right so I relented. The fit got better.
Both sides have stopped working numerous times and have had to be sent out and repaired. Just got back the left side 2 weeks and now it stopped working again. I put both in the drying jar every night, clean them as shown, every night. I am very careful with them. Now the right one is getting static on high sounds and when speaking slightly louder, now sounds like a cheap am radio speaker. This was sent back a few months ago for same issue, but now it's the only one working and I need it until the left one is fixed. I work in an office environment, so I obviously need these to perform as advertised. I'm an IT professional and have read all the docs on these, and these are definitely not living up to the hype. I'm a little pissed to say the least and am about to demand my money back, this is ridiculous.

I purchased a pair of Starkey 1600s in October of 2016! It’s now October of 2018 and guess what, one doesn’t work. When the salesperson told me she couldn’t fix it, I needed to send it in for $265! Not bad after spending almost $4K for the pair and they basically lasted 2 years.

Heard a lot about this hearing aid and company representative visited. It's my feeling that their aim is to sell the machine only. Major drawback: 1. They never tell you that it's highly sensitive to ear wax. It has a very small hole and that fills up with wax and it stop working. They take it granted that at the age of 80 years there is no wax at all. 2. The battery hardly works for 3-4 days. Company rep informed 15 days. Current situation is that you need to change the battery every third day, else it's again dead. 3. Company must tell these things clearly but their aim is to sell the machine irrespective of it's useful or not. At the age of 80 years, this is not the right product and one must see its pros and cons from users and not rely upon the company representative whose aim is to sell only. In my case its just waste of money.

I am legally deaf in the high frequencies. In 7/2017, after being informed that my insurance would cover a new set of hearing aids, I asked if the technology had improved since I got my first aids 3 or so years ago. I was told yes. I replaced my over the ear Starkey aids with the 'in the canal' aids. First problem: Ears get plugged up due to vacuum created when car door shuts. They made adjustments, but I still occasionally have that problem in the car, or not in the car. Second Problem: Setting #2 is for Crowds. I can't hear a person 3 feet away from me in a crowded, loud room. So I told my husband I have to avoid crowds.
Third Problem: I noticed I could not hear the beep of a carbon monoxide alarm in our micro mini RV. I informed the audiologist about this today and he told me to bring in an alarm to test and adjust! Can't he create the sound in the office and make adjustments? Fourth Problem: I still remove the hearing aids when talking on the phone and I avoid speaking on my mobile phone. I get by using the landline and using the speakerphone. When on the phone or anywhere I still tell people I am hearing impaired and to slow down and speak up. So much for improved hearing! The only plus is I can hear the TV better. Anyone with high frequency hearing loss beware of the hype about how good the hearing aids will be. I have lots of hearing aid batteries and am a scuba diver. Once my diving days are over I plan to get cochlear implants.

I first started wearing hearing aids 6 years ago at 47. I started with Phonak absolutely no complaints. I upgraded to Starkey Z series, nice great phone options as far as having a built in mic on the hearing aid, downside was the power consumption, it needed a car battery to keep it operational. I now use the Halo 2. It's ok at best, the streaming from the phone is nice, to use the phone One must use the mic on phone while the caller is streamed to your ear. The Halo does not like heat, on hot summer days it will go into suppression making hearing impossible.
Starkey boasts over what they call mfi or made for iPhone, what is offered isn’t really all that different than what other mfg offer. It’s an app that connects your hearing aids to your phone and controls settings, volume etc. for it being an mfi instrument it really doesn’t do much, it does even less with the Apple Watch. Starkey isn’t terribly bad, but I don’t see them as the best, shop around investigate and ask questions. The best is only a perception like Ford or Chevy.

L-Z SERIES i30 RIC12d-15578784 & 15578801: I am so upset with this company. The Surflink #** that we paid $899.00 did not even work. I packaged it up and sent it back to David ** @ Starkey, AKA American Hearing Benefits with a note requesting a refund. Much to my surprise another Surflink arrived. WE DON'T WANT IT BECAUSE HIS HEARING AIDS DON'T WORK. He has only wore these for a total of 2 weeks combined since MAY 6, 2015. Looking at my invoice. It states Mfr Warranty Expires 5/13/18. Why have you never honored this. I just got off the phone @ 1-88-66-940 where a woman answered the phone. She stated you can only have a cash refund within the 1st 30 days, the other date is for repair. So Why didn't I get a refund for the Surflink that was sent back within the first 30 days?

I bought the Halo iQ aids for 3600 bucks. After picking them up and paying the audiologist informed me that 500 bucks would be kept if I returned the aids for “professional services”. Not very professional to steal money from your “patients”. Anyway, these aids do not work much at all. The volume is a joke, the app is the same and I will definitely be returning them. Maybe just go to Miracle-Ear where most comments are favorable!

I purchased Starkey hearing aids for my mother aged 84 years through HearFones. Since day 1 my mother was not able to hear, after repeated requests the hearing aid was taken for repairs but no change. My mother is a widow with limited means and paid Rs 18000/- with great difficulty. We feel cheated and would want a refund.

I have worn hearing aids for about 20 years and never had any problems. My last pair were Phonak and are wonderful. Still after 7 years I decided to upgrade to new tech. My mistake. I paid $7000.00 for Starkey Hearing Aids that have not worked from day one. Accuquest Hearing said that they will make them work. I have been back to them every week for a year and 1/2 and they still don't work. I have finally given up, it’s too late to return them, so I will keep them as a backup, and buy a new pair of Phonak aids. Don't waste your money on Starkey aids. They’re terrible.

I'm an experienced acoustician, so my comments will be 'techie'. Becoming a senior citizen and then some, the need finally arose in 2015 for hearing aids, chiefly because my understanding rapid repartee in conferences and meetings became harder than ever. The Starkey RIC seemed to do the job with two disappointments:
1- The round black rubber 5mm diameter ear canal leafs were very irritating to my ear canal openings. These openings are flat-ovals and NOT round like the silicone leafs. Closing my jaw narrows the openings further to only be only one mm (left) or two mm (right). At best, these leafs rested with force within that flat oval (right) or across that flat oval (left) entering only via pain. This led to requiring a day or two of rest between wearings. More recently the 5mm leafs were replaced with softer gray clear 3mm silicone leafs that can be worn more often. The left leaf can penetrate the oval with little pain, but often comes out to rest across the oval opening. This remains to be a problem.
2- I queried at the outset whether ANC (Active Noise Cancellation) was yet implemented in these hearing aids, as I know scientifically this is feasible, and will be in hearing aids soon in this 21st Century. That is, for we Elders, along with the loss of high-frequency acuity with age (presbycusis) there is also a reduction in dynamic range (recruitment) where quiet sounds are inaudible while very loud sounds are painful and harmful (i.e. a loss of dynamic range).
Consequently, low frequency sound presented to our ear will be painful and distorting in many social and work environments (loud cocktail parties, bars, concerts and sporting events) often where speech sound amplification is wanted and applied, with the result that speech perception is achieved only when accompanied with painful loud mid-frequency piercing sounds; totally uninvited. The solution is to introduce canceling low-frequency sound to eliminate its nuisance presence, while allowing or amplifying the critical speech sounds in the higher frequency ranges where most of the speech discrimination occurs. An R&D program yet to be executed; but I patiently wait for it to mature.

I paid £3100 for two hearing aids. I had to change my phone to IPhone so I could use the Bluetooth facility. I was also supplied with a Sure surf box for tv. However it doesn’t work with my hearing aids! Only solution offered has been to change the hearing aids to ones compatible with the Sure surf box but to lose the use of Bluetooth with the phone! Did you not bloody know in the first place that it wouldn’t work with my hearing aids? You took my money for something that is of no use to me. The hearing aids are not all they are cracked up to be and your customer service is crap. To cap it all you ask deaf people (Your customers) to phone you despite being deaf. Are you having a laugh?

My husband bought these in Aug 2014. We decided he pay a higher price ($5,490.00) for what we thought would be quality hearing aids. They worked great for 6 months. After that it was nothing but trouble. Starkey rebuilt/replaced them at least 5 times because they were still under warranty. However they never worked properly after all repairs and replacement. Thus we are going to look at other hearing aids tomorrow (1-4-18). Stay away from these hearing aids. They are not worth the price and aggravation.
